YOUR ADVENTURE STARTS HERE

There is an Italian Alps most riders never touch: a high-altitude world of granite spines, glacial valleys, and trails carved between 4,000-meter giants. This is not a bike holiday. It is an e-MTB expedition through one of the most dramatic alpine environments in Europe.
Long traverses above the tree line. Technical descents that punish hesitation. Ancient military roads suspended between sky and valley. The terrain shifts constantly: fast alpine flow gives way to loose rock, exposed switchbacks, and high passes where the air is thin and the margins are real.
This is big mountain riding. Not lift-served laps. Not bike park repetition. Every climb earns a view. Every descent demands focus. The scale of the landscape changes your perception of distance, fatigue, and speed.
This is MTB in the Italian Alps: high, exposed, and uncompromising.

KEY INFORMATION

DAY 1 – Arrival in the Italian Alps

Arrival in Milan Malpensa or Turin, followed by a private transfer into the heart of the Italian Alps. You settle into your alpine hotel and meet the guides for a technical briefing: route overview, elevation profiles, bike setup, safety protocols, and daily rhythm. Final bike checks and adjustments. You’ll have time to relax, and explore the historic center before dinner: a gentle start to the week.

DAY 2 – First Ride into the Valley

Your first real taste of Aosta Valley terrain. Using shuttle support, you access flowing natural descents and linking forest trails that warm up your legs and introduce what makes this region unique. This day mixes shuttle convenience with meaningful pedaled sections as you settle into the riding rhythm.

DAY 3 – Big Ridge + Mountain Hut Ride

After breakfast, you shuttle up into the high ridges. From there you climb toward summit terrain, enjoy sweeping alpine views, and ride down into a mountain hut where you’ll spend the night. This hut stay gives you a genuine alpine experience and positions you for the next day’s riding.
Altitude Gain: ~900–1,300 m
Descent: ~1,500–1,900 m

DAY 4 – Hut Sunrise + Scenic Descent

Wake up in the mountain hut, enjoy a short pedal warm-up, then dive into a classic scenic alpine trail you’ll remember. The day finishes back in Aosta, where you check into your hotel and enjoy a free afternoon to rest, explore town, or soak up the alpine atmosphere. Altitude Gain: ~400–700 m
Descent: ~1,900 m

DAY 5 – Surfin Trail

Today you explore one of the valley’s classic rides. A shuttle brings you into the Cogne Valley, where a long climb above the Lillaz waterfalls leads to the Pas d’Invergneux. You then ride the contours on wide valley trails, pass an ancient mountain village, and ride past additional waterfalls before enjoying a drink on a scenic terrace. The final descent follows the river back into Aosta.
Altitude Gain: ~1,500–2,100 m
Descent: ~1,600–2,200 m

DAY 6 – Let’s Roll the Dice

Today’s ride is not fixed in the program. The guide will propose one of several outstanding options from their list, tailored to the group’s ability, weather, and local conditions. Each choice promises a memorable alpine experience.

DAY 7 – Departure

After breakfast, private transfer back to Milan Malpensa or Turin. Five days of alpine riding behind you. Mission complete.

You will fly into Turin (TRN) or Milan Malpensa (MXP), the two most convenient international gateways to the Italian Alps. As Esploro Travel guests, we include a private pickup from either Turin or Milan Malpensa on the official arrival day. The group meets at the hotel the afternoon before the first riding day for bike setup, equipment checks, and a full route briefing with the guides. The trip is structured as a 7-day / 6-night experience with 5 riding days. All necessary shuttle transfers during the itinerary are included. At the end of the trip, we arrange your return transfer to the airport for departure.

Challenging

This is a high-alpine e-MTB expedition in the Italian Alps, not a casual cycling holiday. The electric assist allows you to cover more ground and reach higher passes, but the terrain remains technical and physically demanding. Expect long days in the saddle, sustained elevation gain, and descents that require solid control and confident bike handling.
Trails include alpine gravel roads, natural singletrack, loose sections, and tight switchbacks. Some stretches may involve exposure typical of big mountain environments. Weather and trail conditions can shift quickly at altitude.
You should have prior e-MTB or MTB experience and feel comfortable on technical terrain. Good endurance, focus, and the ability to ride consistently for five consecutive days are essential.
This trip is designed for riders who want real alpine riding with the range and freedom that e-MTB provides.

Summer in the Italian Alps offers stable mountain conditions, long daylight hours, and generally dry trails. However, altitude plays a major role, and temperatures can vary significantly between valley floor and high passes.

Valley temperatures (1,000–1,500 m):
Daytime: 20–28°C (68–82°F)
Evening: 12–18°C (54–64°F)

High-altitude sections (2,000–3,000 m):
Daytime: 10–20°C (50–68°F)
Early morning / late afternoon: 5–12°C (41–54°F)

Afternoon thunderstorms are possible, especially in July and August. Conditions can shift quickly at altitude, so layering is essential. Riding typically takes place in dry alpine conditions, but cooler air and wind exposure should always be expected above the tree line.

Clothing & Riding Gear

  • Technical, breathable cycling layers suitable for sustained climbing and long descents
  • Lightweight windproof jacket for high passes and long downhill sections
  • Waterproof hardshell jacket for sudden alpine weather changes
  • Padded MTB shorts or bibs + durable trail trousers if preferred

  • Full-finger MTB gloves
  • Protective eyewear with high UV protection
  • Lightweight down or insulated layer for evenings at altitude
  • Casual comfortable clothing for hotel evenings

Footwear

  • Sturdy MTB shoes compatible with your pedal system (clipless or flat)
  • Comfortable shoes for post-ride recovery

Bike & Technical Equipment

  • Your own e-MTB in excellent mechanical condition, or rental bike (available on request)
  • Helmet (mandatory)
  • Knee protection strongly recommended
  • Basic personal repair kit (multi-tool, tube, pump or CO₂)
  • Hydration pack or bottles (minimum 1.5–2L capacity)
  • Small riding backpack for daily essentials
  • Spare battery if you prefer extended range (optional but recommended)

Accessories

  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Personal power bank
  • Small first-aid essentials

Travel Essentials

  • Comprehensive travel insurance (mandatory) covering mountain biking and emergency evacuation
  • Power adapter: Standard European 2-pin plugs (Type C and F)
  • A strong alpine mindset: long days, changing weather, and real mountain terrain require adaptability and endurance.

Physical Requirements & Experience

Q: Do I need to be fit to join?
A: Yes. This is an alpine e-MTB expedition in real mountain terrain. Prior technical riding experience and good fitness are essential for sustained climbs, long descents, and varied surfaces across multiple days.

Q: Do I need climbing or specific MTB skills?
A: You don’t need professional-level skills, but you should be comfortable on technical mountain bike terrain including loose rock, narrow switchbacks, and off-camber sections. Advanced riding ability will make the week more enjoyable.

Q: Can I take a day off if I’m tired?
A: Yes. Because the itinerary uses shuttle transport for riding access and returns to the same base most days, you can rest at the hotel on a riding day and rejoin the group later.

Terrain & Difficulty

Q: How technical is the route?
A: The trip blends shuttle access with pedalled sections on alpine trails. Terrain ranges from flowing singletrack to more technical backcountry sections typical of high-mountain riding. Guides choose lines appropriate to group ability.

Q: What do we do in case of bad weather?
A: The itinerary is adapted to conditions. Strong storms or hazardous weather may alter the ride plan. Safety always takes priority and guides will adjust routes or shuttle use accordingly.

Logistics & Destinations

Q: What locations will we ride?
A: Depending on conditions and guide choice, the week includes ridges, alpine descents, and valley trails around the Aosta Valley. One evening is spent at a mountain hut. Specific trails vary by season and weather.

Q: How are lunches handled?
A: Lunches are typically independent and taken during riding days. You can stop at local spots or carry trail food.

Accommodation & Connectivity

Q: What is the accommodation like?
A: You stay 5 nights in selected hotels (Bed & Breakfast) and 1 night in a mountain hut with breakfast and dinner included.

Q: Will there be Wi-Fi?
A: Hotels generally offer Wi-Fi; connectivity in hut or remote areas depends on local signal, often limited.

Q: How is luggage handled between nights?
A: All shuttle and transport logistics for the riding itinerary are included.

Travel & Prep

Q: How do I get to the starting point?
A: Fly into Turin (TRN) or Milan Malpensa (MXP). Airport transfers are included.

Q: Do I need a visa for Italy?
A: Italy is in the Schengen Area. Most Western passports do not require a visa for stays up to 90 days. Always check requirements for your nationality before booking.

Food & Gear

Q: What’s the food like?
A: Breakfast is included at the hotels and at the mountain hut. Lunches and most dinners are independent. Guides can suggest local restaurants and stops during riding days.

Q: Can I hire technical equipment?
A: Bike rental is available on request from the supplier. Specific protective gear and personal riding equipment must be brought by you.
