YOUR ADVENTURE STARTS HERE

This is a raw 4x4 journey for travelers who value grit over luxury. We move in a tight convoy of rooftop-tented vehicles, navigating the deep sands of the Kalahari and the Namib. No lodges or curated tours, just the daily rhythm of camp life and a 1:3 coaching ratio. Every session is timed with the moon; we stand in Deadvlei at dawn and under Quiver Tree stars at night. With two pros by your side, you’ll capture everything from predators to the Milky Way. Exclusively for creatives under 35, this is a mission to trade the tourist trail for the unfiltered spirit of the desert. Every day pushes you deeper into the wild.

KEY INFORMATION

DAY 1 – Into the Kalahari

Arrival in Windhoek and a quick supply run before driving south into the red sands. We reach our first camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park by afternoon. Set up the rooftop tents and enjoy the first sunset in the bush, fully immersed in one of the most remote wilderness areas on earth.

DAY 2–3 – Predators of the Red Dunes

Two full days tracking the Kalahari’s iconic wildlife: black-maned lions, cheetahs, oryx, and the elusive caracal. We move between safari sessions and midday photo reviews, timing every drive for the best light. Nights are spent by the fire under some of the starriest skies you’ve ever seen.

DAY 4 – Tracking Leopards & Night Skies

A deep dive into the park’s predator hotspots, specifically searching for leopards. After a sunset session, we run our first dedicated astrophotography workshop (weather permitting), utilizing the zero light pollution of the desert to capture the cosmos.

DAY 5 – Giants Playground & Quiver Trees

One final morning safari before crossing back into Namibia. We explore the basalt maze of Giants Playground at sunset, followed by a midnight session in the Quiver Tree Forest. With a special night permit and a new moon, we capture the Milky Way rising behind the twisted aloe silhouettes.

DAY 6 – The Scenic Route to the Coast

Sunrise among the Quiver Trees before driving one of Namibia’s most scenic routes toward the Atlantic. We reach Lüderitz by afternoon, trading the tent for a bed. Depending on the light, we scout the ghost town of Kolmanskop or explore the dramatic cliffs of the peninsula.

DAY 7 – Kolmanskop Ghost Town

Early access to Kolmanskop before the public arrives. We spend the morning in the sand-filled rooms of this abandoned diamond town, capturing the eerie shadows and textures of ruins reclaimed by the desert. Sunset at the wild Lüderitz peninsula before dinner in town.

DAY 8 – Crossing the Namib to Sossusvlei

A 5-hour journey through increasingly arid, majestic landscapes into the heart of the Namib Desert. We stay at a campsite inside the national park, granting us exclusive access to the dunes long after the gates have closed to the general public. Sunset session at Dune 45.

DAY 9 – Deadvlei Sunrise

We head out an hour before dawn to reach Deadvlei for the first rays of light. The contrast of white clay, red dunes, and 900-year-old skeletal trees is a photographic peak. Midday rest followed by a sunset session among the world’s tallest dunes in the Sossusvlei basin.

DAY 10 – Swakopmund & Flamingos

One last desert sunrise before driving north to the misty coast of Swakopmund. We explore the Walvis Bay lagoon, home to thousands of pink flamingos, or head into the coastal dunes where the desert meets the Atlantic Ocean.

DAY 11 – Free Exploration or Scenic Flight

A day to recharge or chase more angles. Optional activities include a 4x4 trip to Sandwich Harbour or a scenic flight over the "Skeleton Coast" (not included). Alternatively, join a 1-on-1 coaching session to work on your portfolio and backup strategies.

DAY 12 – Spitzkoppe: The Granite Cathedral

We head northeast to Spitzkoppe, the "Matterhorn of Africa." We spend the afternoon exploring giant boulders and rock arches in golden light. After dinner, we head to the iconic Spitzkoppe arch for a final night photography session under a canopy of stars.

DAY 13 – Final Arch Sunrise & Windhoek

A sunrise session at the Spitzkoppe arch captures the granite glowing in fiery oranges. After a final camp breakfast, we drive back to Windhoek for a comfortable hotel stay and a farewell dinner to celebrate the 14-day mission.

DAY 14 – Departure

A relaxed morning for final portfolio reviews or urban shots in Windhoek. We transfer the group to the airport according to flight schedules: memory cards full, mission complete.

You’ll fly into Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) in Windhoek, where we’ll be waiting to pick you up. To ensure we hit the road on time, please aim to land before 9 AM on Day 1. If you're coming from a distant time zone or a later flight, we strongly recommend arriving a day early to rest and acclimatize. If you choose to arrive early, just let us know—we can easily handle your airport transfer and organize a comfortable stay in the city before the expedition kicks off.

  • 9 nights of wild camping in rooftop-tented 4x4s, staying in extraordinary, remote locations.
  • 4 nights in selected guesthouses to recharge and refresh halfway through and at the end of the journey.

Easy

Participants should be comfortable with desert heat and moderate activity. Most shooting locations require only short walks (up to 20 minutes). Climbing the dunes at Sossusvlei is a highlight but remains entirely optional; those who choose to summit should be prepared for a 1-hour trek on shifting sand.

Expedition Participation

This is a collaborative journey. Everyone takes part in basic camp duties—setting up rooftop tents, lighting the fire, and helping with daily logistics. It’s all part of the immersive, raw experience of life in the bush.

Experience Required

Open to photographers under 35, from beginners to semi-pros. Whether you are learning to control your camera for the first time or looking to refine a professional portfolio, the 1:3 coaching ratio ensures you get the support you need. No prior camping or workshop experience is required—just a spirit of adventure.

In April, Namibia transitions from the humid summer into the clear, dry season. The landscape is still surprisingly green from the previous months' rains, providing rare and vibrant color contrasts against the
red dunes.

Temperature & Climate: Days are warm and pleasant, usually hovering between 25 and 32°C (77 to 90°F). As the sun sets, the temperature drops quickly; nights are crisp but generally milder than the deep winter months, typically staying around 12 to 15°C (54 to 59°F).

Photography Conditions: The air is exceptionally clear as the dust has been settled by recent rains, making for incredibly sharp long-distance views. You’ll enjoy perfectly blue skies during the day and deep, transparent nights for astrophotography. While rainfall is rare, an occasional late-season afternoon storm can create dramatic, cloud-heavy skies—a dream for landscape photographers looking for something more unique than a standard clear horizon.

Clothing & Footwear

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing for hot and dry desert conditions
  • Warm layer (fleece and light down jacket) for cool mornings and evenings
  • Light long-sleeve shirts and trousers for sun protection and to guard against dust and insects
  • Windbreaker or light waterproof jacket for occasional coastal fog or drizzle
  • Sturdy walking/hiking shoes with good grip for dunes, rocky terrain, and desert hikes
  • Comfortable sandals or flip-flops for downtime
  • Hat and sunglasses for sun protection, especially during desert excursions

Gear & Accessories

  • Sunscreen (high SPF, water-resistant)
  • Hat & sunglasses
  • Headlamp (useful for early morning or evening desert walks, with spare batteries)
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Insect repellent

Travel Essentials

  • Travel insurance covering 4x4 driving and wildlife activities
  • Power plug adapter for Namibia (Type D / Type M sockets, 220–240 V)
  • Power bank for charging devices on long drives and remote areas

Photography Equipment

  • Camera body (DSLR or mirrorless, manual settings required)
  • Lenses:
    - Wide angle (15–35mm or 24–70mm) for landscapes
    - Telephoto zoom (70–200mm, 100–400mm, or 200–600mm) for wildlife
    - Fast wide-angle prime (20mm or 24mm f/1.4–f/2.8) for astrophotography
    - Optional: Prime telephoto (400mm–600mm)
  • Circular polarizer filter
  • Solid tripod (preferably with a leveling base)
  • Extra batteries and memory cards (enough for full days without recharge)

  • Laptop with Adobe Lightroom or CaptureOne
  • External hard drive (SSD or portable HDD) for backup
  • Card reader and cables

Physical Requirements & Experience

Q: Do I need to be fit to join?
A: A moderate level of fitness is more than enough. Most photography spots are easily accessible with short walks of up to 20 minutes. The trek up the Sossusvlei dunes is the most challenging part, taking about 1 hour, but it is entirely optional.

Q: What level of photography experience is required?
A: This expedition is open to all levels, from beginners to semi-pros. With a 1:3 coaching ratio, the guidance is tailored specifically to your goals, whether you’re learning manual settings or refining a professional portfolio.

Photography & Learning

Q: What will I learn?
A: You’ll master landscape, wildlife, and night photography in real-world conditions. We cover everything from lens selection and exposure to advanced techniques like panorama stitching, astrophotography, and post-production workflows in Lightroom.

Q: Will there be individual attention?
A: Yes. With only 6 participants and 2 professional guides, you’ll receive constant hands-on support and one-on-one feedback throughout the journey.

Wildlife & Destinations

Q: What kind of wildlife will we see?
A: We focus on the unique desert-adapted species of the Kalahari and the Namib. Expect to see black-maned lions, cheetahs, oryx, springbok, giraffes, and flamingos. While we track leopards and caracals, wildlife is unpredictable—that’s what makes the successful shots so rewarding.

Q: What locations will we visit?
A: This itinerary hits the rawest parts of Southern Namibia: the red dunes of the Kgalagadi, the "ghost town" of Kolmanskop, the Quiver Tree Forest, the skeletal beauty of Deadvlei, and the granite arches of Spitzkoppe.

Accommodation & Logistics

Q: What is the accommodation like?
A: This is a true adventure. You’ll spend 9 nights wild camping in high-quality rooftop tents on our 4x4s: the best way to stay close to the light. We spend 4 nights in guesthouses to recharge, shower, and manage backups.

Q: Will there be Wi-Fi?
A: In guesthouses and towns, yes. In the heart of the Kalahari or the Namib dunes, you will be completely off-grid. Local SIM cards can be purchased in Windhoek for basic connectivity during the drive.

Q: Do I need a visa for Namibia?
A: Most nationalities can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Windhoek (WDH) for approximately €60–€80, or apply via the eVisa portal. Always check the latest requirements for your specific passport before traveling.

Q: How do I get to the starting point?
A: Fly into Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH). We pick you up on Day 1. If your flight lands after 9:00 AM, we recommend arriving a day early; we can help you arrange the extra night and airport transfer.

Food & Gear

Q: What’s the food like?
A: We operate as a team. We buy fresh supplies in town and cook together over the campfire: expect hearty, fresh meals under the stars. We can accommodate most dietary requirements if notified in advance.

Q: What photography gear is essential?
A: A camera with manual settings, a wide-angle lens (for landscapes/stars), a telephoto lens (for wildlife), and a very sturdy tripod. A laptop for editing and an external drive for backups are highly recommended.
