Q: Is this a photography workshop?
A: No. This is a guided photography journey, not a technical workshop. The focus is on access, timing, atmosphere, and being in the right place at the right moment, rather than formal lessons or classroom-style teaching.
Q: What photography level is required?
A: This trip is open to all levels, from complete beginners to experienced photographers. You don’t need technical knowledge to enjoy the journey. The value lies in location, light, and perspective.
Q: What kind of guidance should I expect?
A: Guidance is informal and on-location. Yuto will share insights on framing, composition, and reading light, but there will be no structured teaching on camera settings, post-production, or theory.
Q: What if I shoot with a smartphone or action camera?
A: That’s perfectly fine. This trip is suitable for photographers, content creators, and visual storytellers using any device.
Your Guide
Q: Who is guiding the trip?
A: The journey is guided by Yuto Yamada, a Tokyo-based photographer known for his work on Japan’s landscapes and cityscapes.
Q: What is Yuto known for?
A: Yuto has exhibited at Leica Galleries in Japan and Europe, is a former Adobe Lightroom Ambassador, and has published photo books focused on Japan’s seasons and visual culture. Most importantly, he is local and works regularly in the locations visited on this trip.
Difficulty & Walking
Q: How physically demanding is the trip?
A: This is an easy-paced trip. Most days involve walking through cities, temples, gardens, and historic towns.
Q: Are there long walks or hikes?
A: Daily walking is moderate and spread throughout the day. Some locations include stairs, stone paths, or gentle slopes, especially in Kyoto and the Nakasendo area.
Logistics
Q: How do I get to Japan for this trip?
A: Arrive in Tokyo via Narita International Airport (NRT) or Haneda Airport (HND). The trip ends in Osaka, with departure from Kansai International Airport (KIX).
Q: Is transportation during the trip included?
A: Transportation between cities and main locations is included, as outlined in the itinerary, including Shinkansen bullet trains and private minibuses for rural areas. Local transportation within cities, such as taxis or public transport to reach individual shooting locations, is not included and will be paid on the spot.
Q: How many people are in the group?
A: Group size is limited to participants, plus Yuto.
Q: Is this trip suitable for solo travelers?
A: Yes. Many of our guests travel solo.
Accommodation & Food
Q: What kind of accommodation can I expect?
A: A mix of carefully selected mid-range hotels and traditional accommodations, chosen for location and atmosphere rather than luxury.
Q: What is the room configuration?
A: Twin or double rooms as standard. Single room available on request, subject to availability and a supplement.
Q: What meals are included?
A: Breakfast is included every day. Lunches and dinners are not included, allowing flexibility to explore local food independently or as a group.

A: Mid to late November, during the peak of Japan’s autumn foliage season (Koyo).
Q: What weather should I expect?
A: Cool, crisp days with temperatures typically between 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), and colder mornings and evenings, especially in mountain areas.
