Scuba Diving
Q: Do I need a scuba certification to join?
A: Yes, a valid scuba diving certification is required to dive (Open Water is the minimum). If you’re not yet certified, you can take the PADI Open Water course with us on site: it’s the gateway to a whole new world.
Q: I haven’t dived in a long time — is that a problem?
A: Not at all. We offer refresher courses at our dive center in Tofo. It’s a great way to rebuild confidence before the first dive.
Q: Can I take an advanced or specialty course?
A: Absolutely. You can upgrade to Advanced Open Water, or get certified for Nitrox, all taught by experienced PADI instructors.
Q: What if I don’t want to dive, or I’m not certified?
A: This trip is open to non-divers too! Whether you prefer to snorkel, relax on the beach, or simply soak in the ocean vibes, you're welcome to join. Just reach out and we’ll discuss a custom rate and experience tailored to you. And if you change your mind once you're there, you can always try a Discover Scuba Diving session or even get fully certified with our PADI instructors on site. No pressure, just options.
Q: Do I need to bring my own diving gear?
A: No, our local dive center has top-quality gear available and included in the price, including wetsuits, regulators, BCDs, and dive computers. You're welcome to bring your own if preferred.
Q: What kind of marine life will we see?
A: Tofo is world-famous for encounters with manta rays, whale sharks, reef sharks, turtles, and seasonal humpback whales. Expect dramatic underwater topography, big pelagics, and plenty of biodiversity.
Q: How many dives are included?
A: The trip includes 12 dives: 2 dives per day for 5 days, plus 2 night dives. All guided by expert local instructors.
Kruger National Park
Q: What’s included in the safari?
A: A full 2-day experience in Kruger, one of Africa’s top wildlife reserves. It includes:
- Return ground transfers from Maputo
- 1 full-day + 1 morning game drives in open vehicles with expert guides
- 1 overnight stay in a Kruger Park rondawel (traditional thatched hut)
- All meals: from light breakfast on departure day to lunch and dinner in the park, and breakfast/lunch on Day 2
- National park entrance fees
Q: How early do we depart for Kruger?
A: We leave Maputo at 05:00 AM to reach the park by opening time. From there, the safari begins in open vehicles for the full-day game drive.
Q: What animals can I expect to see?
A: The Big Five (lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo) are all present, along with giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, birds of prey, and more.
Q: What’s the overnight like?
A: We stay in cozy rondawels inside the park, close to nature but with comforts like beds, bathrooms, and meals at the rest camp restaurant. On clear nights, you’ll enjoy epic stargazing.
Q: Is the safari physically demanding?
A: No. Most of your time is spent seated in the vehicle, with stops for meals and rest. It’s a long but comfortable experience, suitable for all fitness levels.
Logistics
Q: How do I get to Tofo?
A: You’ll fly into Maputo International Airport (MPM), where the group meets on Day 1. From there, we travel by private shuttle to Tofo (approx. 8–9 hours). The return trip to Maputo is included.
Q: Do I need a visa for Mozambique or South Africa?
A: Most nationalities need a visa for Mozambique, which can often be obtained on arrival or online. South Africa (for the Kruger day trip) is visa-free for many nationalities but always check your passport’s requirements in advance.
Q: How big is the group?
A: Our boat is limited to 7 guests (plus 1 leader) to maintain a calm, respectful in-water experience and allow personal attention from guides.
Gear & Preparation
Q: Is diving gear provided?
A: Yes, everything you need is available and included in the price: wetsuits, BCDs, regulators, dive computers, and tanks. You’re welcome to bring your own if preferred.
Q: Is snorkeling gear included too?
A: For any extra snorkeling activities, equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) is not included, but available to rent on site. Just let us know in advance so we can arrange it for you.
Q: What wetsuit thickness is best?
A: A 3 mm full wetsuit is recommended. Water temperatures in this season are around 23–25°C (73–77°F). You’ll be doing multiple dives per day, including night dives, so comfort matters.
Q: Do I need travel or dive insurance?
A: Yes. You must have travel insurance that covers scuba diving, open-water activities, and medical evacuation. If you don’t already have one, we can recommend reliable providers.
Practicalities
Q: Are all meals included?
A: Daily breakfasts and full board during the Kruger safari are included. Lunches and dinners in Tofo and Maputo are not included, but we’ll point you to the best local spots.
Q: What’s the accommodation like?
A: You’ll stay in:
- Beachfront bungalows in Tofo (twin occupancy, ensuite, sea view, AC)
- 4-star hotel in Maputo before and after the safari
- Kruger National Park rondawel, inside the reserve.
Single supplement is available upon request.
Q: Will I have internet access?
A: Tofo has limited Wi-Fi in the lodge’s common areas. Mobile coverage in Tofo can be spotty, especially offshore.Maputo has reliable internet. Signal in Kruger is patchy, especially during the game drives — but that’s part of the adventure.
Other Experiences
Q: Can I add more dives?
A: Of course. Many guests extend their stay in Tofo to enjoy additional diving. Our dive center can arrange day trips, courses, and specialty dives.
Q: Can I go on more safaris?
A: Definitely. Maputo is a perfect base for multi-day trips to:
- Maputo National Park (Mozambique)
- Hlane Royal National Park (Eswatini)
- Return to Kruger for deeper exploration
We’ll help tailor your extension.
Q: What about beach extensions?
A: Mozambique’s coast is full of hidden gems. Consider a few extra days in:
- Vilanculos & the Bazaruto Archipelago (diving & luxury)
- Chidenguele (untouched dunes and lakes)
- Ponta do Ouro (surf & dolphins)
Just let us know your vibe — we’ll make it happen.
