YOUR ADVENTURE STARTS HERE

There are only a handful of places on Earth where you can legally swim with wild sperm whales, and Dominica is the best of them all. Home to a resident population of around 200 individuals, these deep-diving giants roam the warm waters just off the island’s western coast. This is your chance to encounter them in their natural habitat: not from a boat, but in the water, face to face. Each day, for up to 6 hours at sea, we’ll scan the horizon for whale blows, guided by experienced local crew and spotters. When the time is right, we’ll slip silently into the water and witness something truly extraordinary: the world’s largest toothed predator, socializing, resting, or hunting, often in tight-knit pods, and always in communication through their mesmerizing clicks and codas. Swimming alongside them is humbling, unforgettable, and done under strict government permits, following all ethical and safety guidelines, and combine the experience with the island’s tropical beauty and volcanic landscapes. This is not just a wildlife encounter. It’s a deep, immersive journey into one of the ocean’s most intelligent and mysterious creatures.

Whale Encounters

Q: Will I definitely swim with sperm whales?
A: Dominica is one of the best places in the world to encounter sperm whales, with around 200 individuals residing here year-round. That said, nature is unpredictable, and we never guarantee sightings (still, we are quite confident you'll get in the water with these gentle giants!). What we do guarantee is ethical encounters: we never chase or pressure the animals. The most magical moments happen when a whale chooses to approach. And they often do.

Q: What are Whale Swim like?
A: You'll spend up to 6 hours per day on the water, quietly searching for whales. Once located, and when conditions allow, you’ll enter the water in small groups to observe them swimming, resting, or socializing. Hearing their echo clicks underwater while watching a pod interact, often mothers and calves, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Logistics

Q: How do I get to Dominica?
A: You’ll fly into Douglas–Charles Airport (DOM). We offer private transfers from the airport to your accommodation, whether you arrive alone or with others.

Q: Do I need a visa for Dominica?
A: Many nationalities can enter Dominica visa-free for up to 90 days. Please check the specific requirements for your passport ahead of time.

Q: How big are the groups?
A: We keep our groups small: a maximum of 3 guests, plus our team leader.

Q: Are daily hotel–harbor transfers included?
A: Yes. Round-trip transportation between your accommodation and the harbor is included each day, so you can focus on the experience, not the logistics.

Q: Are snacks or meals provided on the boat?
A: Yes, we provide water and light refreshments for the time spent at sea. If you’d like a full packed lunch, we’re happy to arrange it: just let us know in advance (small fee may apply).

Gear & Preparation

Q: Do I need to bring my own snorkeling gear?
A: We recommend bringing your own mask, snorkel, and fins for best fit and comfort. If needed, we can provide basic gear. Just let us know in advance.

Q: Do I need a wetsuit?
A: Water temperatures in March and April range from 27–29°C (81–84°F), so you'll be comfortable in just your swimwear. But we recommend a 2–3mm wetsuit for long sessions in the water, especially if you tend to get cold.

Q: Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
A: You should be confident snorkeling and swimming in open water without support. Physical fitness doesn’t need to be high, but comfort in the sea is essential.

Practicalities & Accommodation

Q: What is the accommodation like?
A: You’ll stay in a handpicked comfortable hotel with swimming pool and ocean views. Rooms are shared twin occupancy unless you opt for a single supplement.

Q: Are meals included?
A: Breakfast is provided daily; snacks and sandwiches are served onboard; dinner is not included but available at the accommodation or nearby restaurants. Dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.

Q: Is there internet?
A: Yes. The hotel has Wi-Fi, and mobile coverage is generally good in coastal areas.

Q: Is travel insurance required?
A: Yes, it is mandatory. It must cover swimming in open water, snorkeling, and boat trips. We also recommend medical evacuation coverage.

Beyond the Whales

Q: What else can I do in Dominica?
A: Dominica is known as the "Nature Island" for good reason. Hike to Boiling Lake, snorkel Champagne Reef, explore Trafalgar Falls, or take a jungle river tour. We’re happy to help you plan extra days to explore the island’s incredible land-based adventures.

Q: Can I extend my trip?
A: Absolutely. Whether you want more time in the water or a wellness retreat in the rainforest, we can tailor your experience before or after your whale swim trip.
