Surf & Conditions
Q: What level of surfing experience do I need?
A: This trip is for intermediate+ to advanced surfers. You should be confident in reef breaks, able to handle overhead waves, and comfortable paddling in and out of boat-accessed lineups.
Q: What kind of waves can I expect?
A: The Telo Islands offer everything from fun, playful walls to fast, shallow reef barrels. The area includes both lefts and rights, with breaks suitable for different moods, boards, and swell directions.
Q: Do I need to bring my own board?
A: Yes. You’ll need to bring your own surfboards, leashes, and spares: there’s no rental option on the island. We recommend bringing at least two boards to match the range of conditions.
Logistics
Q: How do I get to the Telo Islands?
A: Fly into Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in Padang, Indonesia. From there, we handle everything: hotel in Padang, fast ferry to Siberut, and speedboat transfer to the resort. It’s a long journey, but worth it.
Q: How many people are in the group?
A: We keep it small and surf-focused, maximum 8. This means more flexibility, better lineups, and a more personal atmosphere.
Q: Is this trip suitable for solo travelers?
A: Absolutely. Most of our guests come solo. We’ll pair you with another guest of the same gender unless you request a single room (subject to availability and surcharge).
Life on the Island
Q: What’s the accommodation like?
A: You’ll stay in a private beachfront villa, reserved exclusively for our group. Rooms are simple but comfortable, with A/C, ensuite bathroom, and ocean views.
Q: What’s included in the food and drink?
A: The resort provides three fresh meals per day, with local ingredients and international dishes. Tea, coffee, and water are always available. Alcohol and soft drinks are not included but can be purchased on site.
Q: Is there internet access?
A: Yes, the resort is connected via Starlink satellite Wi-Fi, offering unlimited and reliable internet, even in this remote location.
Practicalities
Q: Do I need travel insurance?
A: Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is required, including coverage for surfing, boat activities, and medical evacuation.
Q: What’s the best time of year to go?
A:
We operate during the dry season (May to September), when surf is
consistent and conditions are best. Expect water temps of 27–29 °C and
air temps around 30 °C.
Q: Can non-surfers join the trip?
A: Yes, as long as they’re aware this is a surf-focused adventure.
Non-surfers can enjoy snorkeling, fishing, exploring nearby islands, or simply relaxing by the beach.
